What does it mean when a player hits the tennis ball on the rise?
I know some pro players are good enough to hit the tennis ball on the rise. I hear that Agassi have done it and some like davydenko hits the ball "early". What exactly is this? Are you hitting it on the upward bounce before the ball reaches its apex, or at the exact moment the ball has reached the apex of the bounce? And how would one train for this?
it can either be called a rising shot or a half volley. the best way to train is with either a ball machine or a fairly accurate person on the other side. start on the T and just try to catch the ball right off the bounce. do this until you feel fairly accurate at it then move back to right between the T and baseline and do the same but try to hit with more topspin until fairly accurate. and to basline and do the same. this is a really good drill for learning half volley and rising shots
